How many times will he have to be not out before they push him up?

I'm a HUGE fan of Rikki and Tiny Tim, but Woakes is a player growing in his talent and needs to have the time in the game to score runs.

True. I suppose the worry is him spending lots of time at the crease and then being an important part of the bowling. Just shows what a talent he is.....

Don't know why but that seems to be what has happened.

I have always believed cricket matches are won by bowlers not batsmen so this is a slightly disturbing trend.

(South Africa might disagree on that last point)

Arent they inter related? Weather a but better so pitches better for batters and worse for bowlers? Apparently Edge last week was flat as anything towards the end while Uxbridge is often a road in the middle of a postage stamp ground.

One for the pessimists - Middx havent won at Uxxbridge for 17 years a Middx fan tells me W00t

Fair point Kim!

I also think its simply the law of averages.

Some of our batsmen were due a good run whilst our bowlers had done well and were perhaps due a lean spell!

Looks like a possible tricky day is heading for a draw. Perhaps batting points lost - but the points for a draw did look at risk last night.

8 point gap on Notts, still useful.

Here'a a totally unbiased report of the game:
http://www.cricketnetwork.co.uk/main/s66/st178565.htm?
I should just add that, although he seems to come from Bristol, I have no connections with the writer - Bristol is a big place!
I did enjoy his description of one bit of the ground at Uxbridge as Vermin Corner, although it's not clear whether this refers to the presence of rats or of the less reputable Middlesex supporters.

A hugely significant win for Derbyshire today with an ex Warwickshire player playing his part. There's a big gap now between them and the next team. It will be good to see a midland county get promotion and play us next season.

RE: Middlesex v Bears
Interesting thread this. I'm wondering if the lack of killer instict we're seeing is due to the bore draw effect. Earlier on in the season we've produced individual displays of brilliance or match winning performances when we've been rolled over or on the brink of defeat - maybe that is the catalist to pull one's socks up?
Since the top order has been scoring nicely on good pitches - Somerset aside - we've lost the 'whatever it was' that spurred us on to take - or look like taking - 20 wickets.

Anyhoo, this looks like it could be a good week of CC cricket and a great chance to extend the gap to the chasing pack.
