Interview with Sam here:

I'm sure he means it when he says that he can't wait to get away from the Gold Coast and experience the delights of a Birmingham winter.

I was at Taunton yesterday and saw the first part of Tom Abell's innings for Somerset v Hants.  Today, he has gone on to complete 1,000 runs in first class cricket and make his first 100 for Somerset.  He's just a year older than Sam Hain, so it occurs to me that the future of English cricket is in the hands of Hain and Abell - almost biblical.

Agree with you Terry.

Remember Tom Abell top scoring with 95 batting at number 4 on his Somerset debut at Taunton last August against us. And was impressed during his unbeaten innings of 88 in their second innings of 170 at Edgbaston this season. Calmness while the rest of the team was collapsing around him. Similar to Sam Hain in the second innings against Yorkshire at Edgbaston this season.

The future of the England batting line-up looks potentially healthy if these two can continue to develop and perform. Possible long-term replacements for Cook and Bell.

Yes Terry, although I hope the outcome isn't the same as in the Bible

It looks like Sam Hain is signed up to play for the Rangpur Riders in the Bangladesh Premier League T20 competition.
This should be good experience for him, though I hope he still has a focus on four-day success.

I hope he is learning a lot. With seven first class centuries as against the two from Sibley, Rhodes and Hose combined Sam Hain should be at the forefront of the selection committee's mind for next year but - depending on what promises have been made - he may not even make the team. Years ago Dennis Amiss converted from a middle order batsman to an opener because he couldn't get a place ahead of Kanhai, Kallicharan and MJK. Maybe that is the future for Sam too.

Arguably one of the great up and coming players for the bears, I would love to see him push on and get a county championship century this season. Loads of potential (especially in the one day format), but I reckon he needs to the rub of the green in order to boost his confidence and see him push on to be the top level player that he has the opportunity to be!!

According to this report, he was in a century partnership for the last wicket and was caught on the boundary going for the six that would have won the match!

Wouldn't be nice if he could also get his red ball form back.
