2020 Season
#1
Will there be one?
Neil Snowball doesn't have too much to report right now.

It's all a bit depressing, like everything else at the moment.

It is very hard for any business to give definitive plans now, as this is an unprecidented situation, that is changeing constantly.

Hopefully, in a few weeks or mnths, we can start to get back to normality and we'll be able to return to the sporting and social activities we all enjoy.

Warwickshire should be stable enough to survive as a business, sadly the same may not be true for other counties.

Stay safe

It seems extremely unlikely that the season will start as scheduled on Easter Day. I wonder whether we could see the 50 over competition axed this year, to allow the County Championship and T20 to take place (assuming there's time for those). I imagine that England's Test against the West Indies at Edgbaston in June is also in doubt.

From a spectator point of view the County Championship could proceed. However that still leaves players and coaches having to work in close contact. Therefore I can see the season being cancelled completely until there is a return to some form of normality.

Not entirely unexpected. While I would clearly much prefer the championship to take place over the Hundred, I can see why they may need to prioritise the short forms of the game in order to maximise revenue from what little time is available. My main concern, though, is that this could spell the end of the championship for good. And it's also very worrying to read "It remains possible that no cricket at all will be played in the 2020 season". I'm not sure how I'd cope.

On a side note, given that this season looks bleak, I really hope that Jeetan will consider staying on for one more year. This would be a terrible way to end a magnificent career.

I received my copy of The Cricketer today including the 2020 Fixtures wallchart.
It will probably become a collector piece, along with the 1940 Baedeker Guide to touring the Rhineland.

Sad times indeed. The County Championship could be played with the ability to keep spectators distanced - but that lacks revenue. On the otherhand the T20 will bring in the revenue but difficult if not impossible to keep spectators apart.

Then in all this the players and officials safety has to be considered.

I am glad it is not my decision to make

Just received my 2020 membership. Just seems really strange to me. I was expecting the letter to say that members would be kept informed of changes to the 2020 season etc.

Call me cynical.. but are they doing it so that members can't request a refund? I can't think of any reason why they would send the membership card out now with all the fixtures listed

Got mine today as well. I imagine that the new cards, Beyond the Boundary magazine and fixture lists had already been ordered/produced before the suspension of professional cricket was announced (which was only 10 days ago, remember, although it feels like a lifetime), and so they probably thought they may as well send them out. I'd like to think that, depending on how much cricket we get this summer (if any) that the club will consider rolling over this year's membership to next year.

That would be a nice touch, although I appreciate the club will be in financial difficulties if they have to start compensating members.

I really can't see how we will see more than 2 months of cricket this season at best so I do hope Warwickshire CCC consider ways to compensate members (in various forms not just full/partial refund)
