Does anyone else remember this moment from 1972?

I've only just spotted this post, it got buried amongst more recent ones. A good story very well told, Terry. I wasn't at that game but I do remember MJK being an absolute demon at short leg, often taking catches off the face of the bat and all without PPE - probably not even shin pads.

I was trying to work out when I first remember watching Warwickshire. I know Norman Horner and Billy Ibadulla opened the batting. Jack Bannister opened the bowling. MJK was captain and AC behind the stumps. Looking at old scorecards, it was probably 1962, a year when our number five was frequently Tom Cartwright. And we think we are short of depth in the batting now ...

Thanks - yes, Tom Cartwright would be a bit high at number five, though he did score a double century in 1962.  I think that he started off more as a batsman who bowled a bit; but as his bowling developed, he let his batting go.
