RE: Stanford again
I see they were seeking a jail sentence of 230 years and only got 110. Do you think the proscecutors will appeal against the leniency of the sentence?

RE: Stanford again
I don't know what to make of this to be honest. Yes he deserved a long sentence for defrauding people out of millions of $$$$ but 110 years is taking the piss. He's 62 years of age so no chance of getting out unless he wins his appeal against the sentence. As Stoltmann said far larger amounts of money had been lost by Wall Street bankers but that no one had prosecuted them. "They went after the fly in the ointment," .

RE: Stanford again
It seems the Mr Stanford isn't the only criminal involved in the administration of cricket

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/cricket...l-man.html

Also, we shouldn't forget this

"Modi’s Drug Rap in US

In 1985, General Court of Justice, Durham County, had charged Modi with kidnapping, assault and possession of 400 grams of cocaine, court documents show. He then entered a ‘plea bargain’, which is permitted under the US law and allows a reduced punishment without a trial if the accused confesses to his or her crimes.

“Since the case was reported in the press, in order to avoid further publicity, embarrassment, protracted litigation in a foreign country, heavy costs and consequent intervention with his academic career, he entered into plea bargaining,” Modi’s lawyers wrote in a submission to the Supreme Court.

The Durham County Court accepted Modi’s plea bargaining application
and found him guilty of kidnapping and assault. The court sentenced him to two years imprisonment and fined him $10,000.
On Modi’s request, the court placed him on a five-year probation,
asking him to undergo 100 hours of community service. The decision
on sentencing for possession of drugs was deferred for five years on
the condition that a $50,000 cash bond was deposited with the court This is a normal practice in North Carolina for first-time offenders."

RE: Stanford again
Scyld Berry has adjusted some of the facts there though. Every Indian cricket fan hates Srini too.

Quote:A couple of days ago the report into spot-fixing by IPL players, following a TV sting during this year’s competition, was submitted to Srinivasan.

This isn't clear enough, there was no fixing in IPL per the sting. They found corruption in IPL(fixed price of 25k for young players, apparently being paid under the table, which is no surprise actually), and fixing in a local t20 league which isn't under BCCI jurisdiction anyway I think..

Quote:This year’s IPL final was staged in Chennai. Last year’s IPL final was staged in Chennai. The last Champions League final was staged in, of all places, Chennai. Yes, we are talking about the most powerful person in cricket.

The winner of the IPL gets the next IPL final as reward, so ignorance here. Next year it'll be in Kolkata, because they won it. Yes we're talking about logic here.

Quote:Should he himself be the first ICC chairman, or someone he can trust, someone who will give the IPL a seven-week window in the international calendar, unlike Lorgat?

India do not want a window. And don't need one. That's fact, it's a simple thing that many people seem incapable to understand. Spreading FUD is favourable for Berry though but it ruins an article that could have really made a good point. It said nothing not known nor presented it well.

RE: Stanford again
So corruption in Indian cricket is even more endemic than the article suggests ?

RE: Stanford again
No but corruption is rife in India, it would be weird if cricket was excluded from that anyway.

RE: Stanford again
It would suggest Modi has offered the ECB a significant sum but only if the settlement terms are not disclosed.

Remember Modi has a significant criminal record

Since Modi was suing Clarke, I would have though that any payment would be in the opposite direction. Why would Modi's criminal record be relevant?

RE: Stanford again
You may be right.

Unless there is a leak we'll never know the details.

Surely his criminal record is very relevant? as it shows the sort of person he is.
